PENOBSCOT MINERAL AND LAPIDARY CLUB
About Us
Club field trip to Little Deer Isle, August 19, 2006
The Penobscot Mineral and Lapidary Club was organized in March 2004 to
foster the interest in rocks, minerals, fossils and lapidary in the Bangor area.
During the summer the club sponsors collecting field trips to various sites
statewide.  During the winter we hold workshops on Lapidary and jewelry
making techniques.
ROCK SHOW
On  the first weekend in November we host a Rock Show at the Brewer
Auditorium.  This is an annual event.  We have 20 or more vendors at the
show featuring rock related products such as decorative carvings, jewelry,
mineral specimens, gemstones, etc.  This year we added a lapidary
demonstration.  The show is very well attended by the public at large.
August 2006.  We went to Loring
Cove in Perry to collect beach
agates, jasper and carnelian.
July 2006.  We went to the
Pitts-Tenney quarry in Minot to
collect garnets.
June 2006.  We went to Katahdin
Gem Shop in Millinocket where
we washed out buckets of Mt.
Mica gem pocket material.
August 2006.  We went to Little
Deer Isle and collected Deer Isle
jasper and serpentine.
